Cement Ship

This is a photo of a cement ship abandoned and taken over by sea birds.

The cement ship in Aptos, California is a world war 1 relic (SS Palo Alto) which was built out of cement because there was a war time shortage of iron. It never was put into military service as the war ended before it was finished. It was at one time a dance floor of an amusement park and more recently as a fishing pier. Recent winter storms with 20 foot waves cracked the ship into multiple pieces and has now been left to the pelicans and seagulls.

I pass by the cement ship on the way to the highlands of Aptos which has a few nice 15% grade hills and great ocean views.

I love walking and riding in the hills.
