The bench on the 50 foot cliff overlooking Monterey Bay has been repaired.
The bench is not an “official” California bench. It is not even an official park but rather a bluff running along side an old abandoned railroad line. As often happens on the Northern California coast, individuals take it upon themselves to build small benches at the most panoramic locations. This bench is my favorite and also the destination of my daily morning walk. It is a sturdy and utilitarian bench reminding me of something my Grandpa would build. The old bench was weather worn and some of the boards had broken. Then like magic, someone repaired it at the beginning of the pandemic.
I believe that is why it was inscribed with the message, “This Too Shall Pass”.
